Rahul Sankrityayan was born in 1893 at a small village names pandaha in Azamgarh district in Utter Pradesh. His actual name was kedarnath and Gotra was Sanskriti, due to which, he was called as Sankritiyayan. Since, he had a lot of faith in Budhism, so he changed his name to Rahul.
His primary education was completed at 'rani ki sarai' and nizamabad. In 1903, he completed his urdu middle. His father wanted him to study further, but due to his attachment towards Buddhism, he was not able to continue his studies.
Then, he started a long tour of Tibet, USSR, Europe, Sri Lanka and complete India. When he returned, he wrote "Ghumakkad Shastra" to guide the tourists. He had written almos 150 books related to tourism, essays, stories etc.
